We made it to the Tropic of Cancer! 23.5 degrees N at 9am this morning Pacific time so we split a beer and had some chips because in the end, what is time anyhow? It was a sunupper rather than a sundowner! Now midday we are finally both wearing t-shirts and we’re certain shorts will come in another day or two (maybe for Conor’s birthday tomorrow?? Mother Nature can send some wind too!).
We are still going slow due to a lack of wind with swells that don’t let our sails stay full. We’ve got half of our jib poled out and it still slats about but it’s the best we can do. No spinnaker picture today because Conor is fixing it after important metal part that attaches the sheets (control lines/rope for non-sailors) cracked yesterday. We were able to safely lower the sail, breathe a huge sigh of relief that it all went smoothly enough, and figured we’ll try again once it’s fixed if we need to.
We’re getting into a groove and working super well together. All of your texts, emails and comments mean the world to us when now we haven’t seen signs of other humans in over 24 hours (two cargo ships heading for the Panama Canal). Sending love from the big watery blue in the direction of the tradewinds!
Hi Steph and Conor,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TOMORROW, Uncle Conkor!!! We hope you have some cake, and we’ll have some to celebrate! We love chips too (so maybe some of those).
Calla would love to learn about birds in French Polynesia.
Love,
Calla and Adele
Uncle Conkor here — thank you, Calla and Adele! Chips for everyone, birthday or not. Did you know that other sailors sailing to French Polynesia have had a bird called a booby hitch a ride on their boat for a few hours? Even birds get tired of flying and like to sail 🙂
Celebrating this milestone with you from afar! (And literally LoL’d at your clever title). 🙂
Celebrating the small wins as one needs to! Now that I’ve started with the puns, I might not be able to stop.
We love following your adventures! So excited and proud of you both for doing this sailing adventure. What a great team the two of you.
Happiest of birthdays to you Conor.
We love you both so much!!
Jim & Marilyn
Thank you both!! We love you right back and this is teaching us so much about teamwork. Luckily we have headsets that help us talk to each other when we’re doing sail changes. In the sailing world, the headsets are called “marriage savers.”
Happy Birthday Conor!
Thanks Geoff! We’re considering today Conor’s birthday now that morale has improved since the flogging has stopped lol.
Happy Birthday Conor!
P.S. that beer and chips look mighty delicious and very well earned 🙂
Love you two!
Time for another celebration now that we’re at the halfway mark! 🙂
Happy Birthday Conor! We are heading to your old home stomping ground this weekend, Park City for our annual ski trip, then back to get Breezes ready for 8 weeks sailing the coast of Maine. Not as adventurous as you guys. Safe sailing!
Say hi to PC for us! Happy ski trails!
